Political movements from the opposition towards the majority continue to increase. Former Democratic Party MP, Zheni Gjergji, was recently appointed Director of the Elbasan Regional Hospital, a position of importance in the public health administration.
Gjergji was part of the Albanian Parliament in the previous mandate, after being elected as an MP under the Democratic Party's banner in the 2021 parliamentary elections. However, in the last elections, she was not part of the DP's candidate lists, which signaled her distancing from the current party structures.
This development comes at a time when the Socialist Party appears to be strengthening its ranks through the inclusion of former opposition representatives, in a strategy that has been interpreted as an attempt to consolidate control over the administration and further weaken the political opponent. Zheni Gjergji's appointment follows similar cases in Tirana and Vlora, where other opposition figures have joined the SP, or have been integrated into state functions run by this political force.
