In a session of the Committee on Laws and Civic Initiatives, the chairwoman of the High Prosecutorial Council, Mirela Bogdani, spoke on Tuesday about the progress of the process of appointing the new head of SPAK and the role that the KLP has in this procedure.
"We are awaiting the name that will be proposed by the Special Prosecution Office to appoint as the head of SPAK. That's all the information we have at the moment. The process is expected to be concluded soon, but there is no exact timeframe yet. According to the law, the role of the Council is mainly formal and we cannot go beyond the legal provisions," said Bogdani.
She explained that the KLP approved at its last meeting the procedure with the formal conditions and criteria for the selection of the head of SPAK, a necessary step to continue with the verification of files, the analysis of candidates and finally the voting process.
Asked about influences or pressures during the process, Bogdani said that it is not about direct pressure, but about light forms of lobbying.
"There is no real pressure, it is more about lobbying. Some are more fans of certain approaches of a prosecutor – someone follows a more repressive line, someone else more liberal or humane. At the end of the day, they are all SPAK prosecutors," she stressed.
