From accuser to group leader, the irony of the Bardhi-Këlliçi clash

The summoning of MP Belind Këlliçi to SPAK appears to be a direct result of the strong clashes that occurred within the Democratic Party in 2021, at the height of the battle for the party's seal and leadership. The great political irony lies in the fact that the initiators and protagonists of that clash are today together within the same party, following the same political fate – the one assigned to them by Sali Berisha.

Gazment Bardhi, once an accuser, and Belind Këlliçi, now appearing before SPAK, were on different sides of the barricade at the time. Today, they are on the same side, although it remains unclear whether the resentments, accusations and denunciations of that time have been forgotten or simply swept under the rug of political interest.

Sources for VNA reported this morning that Belind Këlliçi was questioned at SPAK as a person in the know, regarding the method of financing the Re-establishment Assembly, held on December 11, 2021. At that time, when the battle to obtain the seal of the Democratic Party was at its peak, Këlliçi was one of the main organizers of this Assembly.

It was precisely for this famous Assembly of December 2021 that Gazment Bardhi, then Secretary General of the Democratic Party, filed a criminal complaint with SPAK. Bardhi's complaint was directed against MP Belind Këlliçi, MP Albana Vokshi, former MP Edmond Spaho, MP Ivi Kaso, and Ervin Minarolli, currently Secretary for Organization and Human Resources at the Democratic Party.

Those reported by Bardhi were members of the Committee that directed the proceedings of the Assembly of December 11, 2021. In the reporting document, the object was related to the criminal offense of "forgery of seals, stamps or forms", committed in collaboration.

According to the complaint, "these citizens distributed forms with the logo and symbols of the Democratic Party, creating the belief among other citizens that they were receiving official documents issued by the Democratic Party. This action was committed by several citizens and was handed over to many other persons, constituting a criminal offense with serious consequences."

Today, Gazment Bardhi holds the position of chairman of the DP parliamentary group, while facing his indictment are three Democratic MPs and the party's organizational secretary. An unusual situation, where internal party relations are directly intertwined with SPAK's investigations.

Belind Këlliçi, Albana Vokshi and others are today on the same political wing as Bardhi. However, as Bardhi himself knows well, state papers do not disappear. They remain in the archives. The party may keep the seal, but the prosecution keeps the file.
