The People's Advocate has become a bone of contention between the majority and the opposition in recent days. A banal political game, if we consider that today the Assembly will vote among several names that have practically received the signatures of DP deputies to be considered candidates for this position. The names and their support are:
Adriana Kalaja – 44 firms
Aranita Brahaj – 35 firms
Besim Ndregjoni – 34 firms
Endrit Shabani – 35 firms
Skënder Haluci – 30 firms
Tartar Bazaj – 28 firms
The SP chose not to sign any candidates, leaving the entire process to the DP, which allowed MPs to sign for more than one name – a practice that contradicts the logic and spirit of the law. The result? A long list of candidates and no real name to bring to the session by consensus.
In the end, the DP decided to withdraw completely, blowing up a process it had built itself. All six candidacies – including Endrit Shabani – were proposed with the signatures of Democratic MPs. But suddenly, their political will was sacrificed for a single order: that of Sali Berisha.
And the question that naturally arises today is this: how can the signatures of 36 MPs end up in the Assembly's trash bin, just because Berisha declared so? What party operates with cancellations overnight? What message is sent to voters when an MP signs today and denies his signature tomorrow?
