Mirlinda Karçanaj has commented publicly for the first time on her relationship with Ergys Agasi and the investigations related to the procedures at AKSHI, stating that institutional contacts cannot be automatically interpreted as criminal liability.
In her interview on Top Story with Grida Duma, Karçanaj said that she has known Agas from the time when he held positions in public administration and that the relationship between them has been "correct as with all leaders."
"In public functions, it is necessary to have contacts, because otherwise the work does not get done. But contacts cannot be turned into criminal liability," she stated.
Karçanaj stated that it is not up to her to determine whether or not Agasi has criminal responsibility, emphasizing that this is the duty of the prosecution and the investigative process.
"There may be guilt, it's not up to me to say that. It's up to the prosecution to investigate by analyzing the evidence and documents and then come to conclusions," said the former director of the AKSH.
Regarding her role in the institution, Karçanaj stated that the management of the AKSHI has been oriented towards implementing the law and respecting procedures.
"What I can say about myself is that the way I have run the institution has been clearly oriented towards implementing the law, not violating any procedure, and ensuring that everything is in accordance with the law," she said.
Karçanaj added that her main focus was not procurement, but the technological developments of the institution.
"As for procurement, I have chosen not to deal with the daily. I have even delegated the role of head of procurement. I have not followed the procurements," she stated.
