The candidate for mayor of Tirana, Florian Binaj, reacted today to Prime Minister Edi Rama's statements on the "Flasim" podcast, where the latter called him "a desperate choice by the opposition" and "a comedian in the role of an independent candidate."
In his reaction, Binaj expressed himself in ironic tones:
"The biggest actor in Albania is Edi Rama, who takes 140 million euros from citizens by 'convincing' them that he is building an incinerator without laying a single brick! Prestigious!"
This is Florian Binaj's first political reaction to a direct accusation from the prime minister, while the electoral process for the Municipality of Tirana still does not have an officially announced date.
Rama added that the Socialist Party candidate, Ogerta Manastirliu, is "the right leader for Tirana", emphasizing that "the residents of the capital will know how to choose seriousness over spectacle".
The controversy between the prime minister and the opposition candidate signals the start of a campaign that is expected to be filled with irony and strong public clashes, even though the election date still remains unclear.
