Democratic Party MP, Ivi Kaso, has come to the defense of Sali Berisha, stating that the DP leader has fulfilled all the expectations of party members for the May 11 elections. According to him, Berisha has done everything to protect the vote and denounce violations of the electoral process.
Opposing the statement of his colleague, Besart Xhaferaj, who had demanded Berisha's removal if he did not prove election manipulation, Kaso, in an interview with Euronews Albania, took stock of the DP leader's activity, saying that Berisha has monitored the process and defended the vote with determination.
"I believe that if Mr. Xhaferaj had expectations of what Mr. Berisha would do in his capacity as the leader of the DP to protect the vote, I believe that this expectation has been fulfilled. Seeing the daily battle that not only Mr. Berisha, mainly Mr. Berisha, but the entire Democratic Party has waged in denouncing all the violations that were finalized in this very serious OHDIR report. And I believe that in this regard, the Democratic Party has fully fulfilled the expectations of its members and has done what it said, that it would do everything to monitor, to protect the vote of Albanians by denouncing all the violations not only before law enforcement agencies, but also before all partners. So I believe Mr. Xhaferaj should be satisfied with this," said Kaso.
Ivi Kaso's statements clearly reflect the zeal of the majority of Democratic MPs to defend Sali Berisha's position at the head of the DP.
However, the DP lawyer has not even taken into consideration the party's statute, which provides for the removal of the chairman in the event of an election loss. But this seems to be the lesser evil in light of the fact that opposition MPs have not yet bothered to even analyze the loss, let alone demand the resignation of their leader.
Ultimately, many of them secured a seat in Parliament thanks to Sali Berisha, and this seems to have been their ultimate goal in politics.
