Endri Shabani has been elected as the People's Advocate, following a voting process in the Assembly that he describes as unexpected and emotionally touching. In a recent status, Shabani thanked the deputies for their support and contribution during his candidacy, writing:
"I am still surprised by the opposition MPs, who initially encouraged me with kindness, gave me their signatures according to the law, and wished me success, but then decided to abandon my candidacy as if it were not theirs."
On the other hand, the majority MPs initially refused to give me even a signature, although some of them are my friends, with the argument that the Socialist Party would not get involved in this opposition work, but at the final moment they all voted for me, even by secret ballot, entrusting me with the duty of Ombudsman."
Shabani praised this vote as an act of political maturity and emphasized that he will work to maintain the respect of all in carrying out his constitutional duty. He especially thanked the opposition MPs for the opportunity they gave him to run and the majority for the trust they showed in the final vote.
