Sali Berisha has reacted to criticism that the joint resolution voted with the majority on European integration does not include the opposition's strongest accusations against Edi Rama's government.
During his statement, Berisha admitted that the text does not directly mention names or specific issues, but argued that the issues raised by the opposition are "implied in every paragraph" of the resolution.
"Absolutely, in that resolution, from the first line to the last, there is no appreciation, not even the slightest, for the work of the parliament and the government in the integration process," he declared.
According to Berisha, the lack of direct references to the affairs that the opposition has denounced was a condition for reaching political agreement.
"If we were to demand that Linda Rama's name appear in AKSHI, Edi Rama's private kindergarten, in the affairs of Belinda Balluku, Edi Rama and others, of course Edi Rama would never allow his MPs to vote for it," said the leader of the DP.
He also mentioned the case of Olta Xhaçka, saying that "the case of Olta Xhaçka" is "self-evident" in the parts of the resolution that require the implementation of the decisions of the institutions and the strengthening of the role of parliament.
Berisha argued that the document essentially represents the opposition's position held for two years: support for European integration, but with the conviction that Albania does not meet real standards other than the geopolitical criterion.
"The resolution from alpha to omega sets demands and contains no assessment of the government. In every phrase it makes clear the major issues that need to be addressed," he declared.
According to Berisha, the unanimous vote should not be read as support for the government, but as a confirmation of "the DP's consistency towards integration based on merit and performance."
