Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha reacted sharply to the draft law on gender equality during his speech before the Parliament, describing it as a threat to the family and traditional Albanian values.
"This initiative leads to the destruction of the family, which is the foundation of a society. The law is built on the ideology of the extreme left and overturns the constitution, the country's codes and the millennial heritage of our values," said Berisha.
According to him, the draft law "penalizes and punishes" those who defend the family, violating freedom of thought and expression.
"In the name of approximation with European directives, a great deception is being committed. This law leads us towards totalitarianism and resembles the law that once declared Albania an atheist state," Berisha declared.
