The "Albania Becomes" party led by Adriatik Lapaj has decided to support the candidacy of Florjan Binaj for mayor of Tirana, in the November 9 by-elections.
Through an announcement on social media, Lapaj emphasized that the decision was made in accordance with the previously announced position to support an independent candidate, adding that "this decision is based on our goodwill and the conviction that Albania is above the party."
In this way, Lapaj effectively joins the Democratic Party's line, which has so far made no official reaction to the candidacies in Tirana, but has quietly not publicly opposed Binaj. He remains the only candidate who has not been attacked on social networks by PD militants and the only one about whom the media close to Sali Berisha have published news in a neutral or positive tone.
The decision of "Albania Becomes" is seen as a signal of rapprochement with the traditional opposition, while the race for Tirana is entering a new phase, where independent candidates are receiving more and more public attention.
