Well-known actor and moderator Florian Binaj has been added to the list of opposition candidates for the Tirana Municipality elections.
In a public statement, Binaj said that after more than two decades of engagement in issues of national interest, he has decided to run for mayor as a "free citizen, without a party," with the aim of giving the capital a leader who represents citizens and not political interests.
Full post:
Dear friends, honest, hard-working and quiet citizens of the capital of Albania. As an artist involved in public issues of national interest for 22 years, as a family man, raised in a capital that has destroyed much in the name of development and that very few things are still undone, based on the immediate need to have a figure in charge of the capital who is not a member of any party, since we have seen in 34 years that this indirect way has not been fruitful in improving the quality of our lives.
We need a civic leader elected by the citizens for the citizens because none of us can wait another 34 years. That is why I have decided to announce my candidacy for Mayor of Tirana, giving my all to represent as worthily as possible every citizen, with or without a party, the gray electorate but without dividing people into sides, but as equals, because no city, and even more so the capital, can serve only the political party that leads it. I believe that my contribution will serve, even though it is half a mandate, hope and unity, improving the lives of all the capital's residents.
I wish and hope that all political parties that truly want change regardless of color will join this initiative and have faith in the citizens just as the citizens have had faith in them.
My goal is, together, to get the municipality out of the situation it is in because of politics and to return it to the citizens as a home for all of us. To restore faith in the institution of the municipality in service of the community!
I invite all citizens, intellectuals from the left and right to join us.
Thank you.
