After proposing to the opposition the so far unsuccessful formula of a candidate outside political parties for Tirana, Agron Shehaj has today added another alternative. According to him, to win Tirana, the opposition needs another poll, as several independent candidates have emerged who want to run with the support of opposition parties.
"I have also proposed to the opposition parties that want to support a candidate outside the political parties, all together to hire a foreign Western company that within a few days can tell us who the winner could be. Within two days, I believe the results of the survey can be released. The campaign will last a few weeks. A professional survey will be the best way to make a decision on the best candidate," Shehaj said in a television interview.
With just over 30 days left until the Tirana mayoral elections, the opposition has still not agreed on a name among the 4-5 self-proposed candidates. This cacophony of names certainly does not help the opposition in the unequal race for the capital. But beyond that, the question that arises after Mr. Shehaj's poll proposal is: has he really understood that the DP and Sali Berisha do not want a candidate they do not have control over? Or is he saying this simply to appear on TV?
