Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama declared that Albania is not threatened by recent developments in the Middle East, while mocking the opposition for spreading speculation about a possible attack on the country. In his weekly podcast “Flasim” on Facebook, Rama emphasized that the biggest problem, according to him, is domestically produced disinformation.
"The greatest evil lies within us, the source of disinformation, lies, and fabricated news," he said.
The Prime Minister said that Albania, as a NATO member country, enjoys protection from the alliance and is not exposed to possible attacks.
"I remind everyone that Albania is a member of NATO and this response capacity applies to all member countries of the alliance," Rama declared.
He also mentioned a recent case in Turkey, where according to him a missile coming from Iran was immediately neutralized by NATO forces, as an example of the alliance's rapid response to protect member countries.
In his reaction, Rama also mocked the opposition for speculation about an attack on Albania, suggesting that some voices would see this as an opportunity for political gain.
"A series of news reports about the alleged possibility of an attack on Albania have been produced in the most criminal and irresponsible manner. With all the regret for the evil one, who would certainly have no problem if given the opportunity to try an attack on Albania, just to feed the hope that the so-called 'Edi Rama regime' will be overthrown," he said.
Rama added that the situation in the Middle East remains complicated, while emphasizing that Albanian institutions are closely monitoring developments and are in contact with diplomatic missions for the safety of Albanian citizens in the region.
