The Democratic Party concluded its much-discussed “renewal” process, ultimately producing a result that confirmed continuity rather than change. Flamur Noka was re-elected as the party’s Secretary General, securing another four-year term and remaining the Democrats’ number two, just as the DP declares it is entering the “last mile” towards returning to power.
After the debates of the last few days, the rejected resolutions and the clashes at the National Council meeting, the vote ended with Noka's victory over MP Saimir Korreshi. Noka received 184 votes, while Korreshi stopped at 84, sealing that the "renewal" had no intention of touching the most important organizational post of the party.
The race for vice-chairs also brought some new balances, but no major shocks. Belind Këlliçi won against Luçiano Boçi with 177 votes to 113, while Agron Gjekmarkaj and Gazment Bardhi will continue to hold the positions of vice-chairs of the Democratic Party.
In the secretariats, Klevis Balliu was elected Organizing Secretary with 197 votes, leaving behind Agron Lokë. Andi Mustafaj won the Human Resources Secretariat, Ylli Asllani that of Local Government, while Marash Logu won a landslide victory in the Legal and Electoral Affairs Secretariat with 215 votes. Ethem Aga was elected Secretary for the Diaspora, while in the other competitions the winners were names that mainly represent the current party structure.
In the Appeals Commission, Adriana Kalaja received the most votes with 238 votes, followed by Besart Logu, Shaqir Manjani, Suina Asllanaj and Gentian Koçi.
In the end, the process that was presented as a new stage for the Democratic Party produced a familiar message: change can wait a little longer. New figures were added to several positions, but the political and organizational leadership remained in the hands of the people who have led the party for years. With Flamur Noka again as Secretary General and the leadership team almost unchanged, the DP closes the “renewal” and starts the last mile towards the declared victory over the SP, with the same helmsman and almost the same car.
