
A day after the murder of Judge Astrit Kalaja in the Court of Appeals, the Albanian Bar Association has declared a two-day boycott of all judicial and investigative proceedings in the country.
On October 9 and 10, lawyers will not participate in any criminal, civil or administrative hearings at all levels of courts.
According to the official decision, the boycott is an institutional reaction and a call for awareness of the danger faced by justice professionals.
The Chamber of Advocates appeals to the highest institutions of justice and the political class to take measures for the safety of judges, prosecutors and lawyers themselves. The goal, the statement says, is to protect life and guarantee the exercise of duty in safe conditions.
DECISION/ STEERING COMMITTEE OF THE ALBANIAN BAR ASSOCIATION
The Steering Committee of the Albanian Bar Association follows with great concern the event regarding the murder of the Judge of the Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction, Mr. Astrit KALAJA, as the most serious and unprecedented event ever to occur in the justice system.
The Steering Committee of the Albanian Bar Association unanimously decided to boycott all investigative and judicial processes, for criminal, civil and administrative matters, at all levels of trial, on October 9 and 10, 2025.
This boycott is a call to all Albanian opinion, politics, the High Judicial Council, the High Prosecutorial Council, the High Inspector of Justice, as well as the parties to the case, to engage with maximum responsibility in ensuring the life and health, as well as the activity and activity of judges, prosecutors, and lawyers in the exercise of their duties in the realization and functioning of justice.
This decision does not extend its effects to security measures in criminal proceedings.
All presidents of the Local Bar Associations are ordered to execute this decision.
