On July 23, Hayati Aroyo, a crime boss of Turkish origin, was found burned to death in an apartment in Sesto San Giovanni, near Milan. He had been stabbed to death with thirty knives and his body was then burned to cover his tracks. Following the investigation, three people were arrested: Valentina Peroni, 36, her husband Emanuele Paganini, 38, and Albanian Elvis Simoni, 33, a close friend of the couple.
According to investigators, Elvis was the one who stabbed Aroyo in the heart with a knife and then placed the body on the bed, where he set it on fire using candeggina (bleach), also endangering the apartment of a student he had rented in the month before the murder.
The motive for the crime is linked to an erotic video starring Valentina, which the victim had stored on a tablet. It was taken from the apartment along with money, a phone and three credit cards. On July 24, Valentina and a friend of hers, not involved in the crime, used one of the stolen cards in a gambling hall in Busto Arsizio, which became one of the main pieces of evidence for investigators.
The incident is linked to a drug ring and parties involving cocaine and synthetic substances that Aroyo organized. He was the brother-in-law of Turkish crime boss Huseyin Sarai, who was killed in 2005. The three arrested suspects are also suspected of participating in these parties. According to the investigation, the murder plan was carried out using Valentina as a "threat", bringing her into Aroyo's house to open the door for his accomplices.
The evidence linking the perpetrators to the incident was abundant: the taxi that Aroyo paid for Valentina, the movements of their phones between Busto Arsizio and Sesto San Giovanni, the testimony of a neighbor who saw Elvis Simoni leaving the house, and security cameras that recorded a Peugeot 107 with a friend of Valentina's waiting there. Also, WhatsApp messages showed the dynamic between them, with Elvis declaring that "it was not the first time he had experienced such situations," while Valentina expressed bad feelings about the events that were about to happen.
