The Italian investigative media "Le Iene" has continued to uncover the criminal group of fraudulent call centers operating in Albania. According to the Italian media, the Albanian Special Prosecution has dismantled a criminal network that defrauded citizens through fake investments and "online trading". According to the authorities, the group generated profits of 20 to 30 million euros per month, operating through call centers coordinated in several European countries, based in Albania. The operation was documented by journalist Luigi Pelazza, who, with the help of an undercover collaborator, uncovered the scheme and behind-the-scenes of the international fraud.
The Italian investigative show “Le Iene” revealed the inside story of how the fraud scheme worked. Journalist Luigi Pelazza, with the help of an undercover associate, documented the phone calls, the scenarios used by the operators and the psychological pressure on the victims to convince them to invest ever larger amounts. The investigation showed that the victims believed they were investing in real financial markets, while the money ended up directly in accounts controlled by the criminal organization.
The report also shed light on the structure of the network, the roles of members, and the way in which fraud was disguised as legitimate financial activity, causing major economic damage to thousands of people in Europe.
