The Supreme Court postponed the hearing of former President Ilir Meta's appeal against the security measure "prison arrest" to October 16. The case was scheduled to be heard yesterday, November 9, in a consultation room, but was postponed because judges from all over Albania participated in the General Meeting of Judges that was called after the murder of Judge Astrit Kalaja. Former President Ilir Meta has been held in custody since October 21, 2024. He says that there is no longer any reason to keep him in custody, as SPAK has completed the investigations and there is no risk of him destroying evidence or intimidating witnesses. SPAK has indicted Ilir Meta and his ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi on charges of corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets. Also charged are Fatime Kryemadhi, Meta's former mother-in-law, Ema Çoku and Piro Xhixho.
