
The Special Court of Appeals returned for retrial the criminal case against Aurel Zarka, former head of the Vlora Prosecutor's Office, accused of corruption in the Toyota Auris case.
"The Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime, based on the letter "ç" of the first paragraph of Article 428 and the first paragraph of Article 429 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, decided: to overturn decision no. 36 dated 20.05.2025 of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime and to return the acts to the same court with another panel," the decision of the panel states.
Aurel Zarka has been sentenced to 4 years in prison for corruption and unlawful influence in the case known as "Toyota Yaris". Due to the shortened trial, his sentence was later reduced to 2 years and 8 months in prison. Zarka was arrested on the basis of conversations in the Sky ECC application where he is included according to SPAK in the Toyota Auris file where 3.4 million euros were trafficked and seized at the Port of Durres. Former officer Erjona Daupaj and businessman Astrit Vladi are wanted for this incident, while lawyer Radovan Çela surrendered.
