A fatal accident was recorded this morning on the Gjirokastër-Kakavijë road, where a 71-year-old woman lost her life after being hit by a vehicle driven by a State Police officer.
The victim has been identified as Kostulla Harito, a resident of Gjirokastra. According to preliminary information, she had just gotten off the Gjirokastra-Ioannina bus when she was fatally hit by a car driven by a police officer.
Immediately after the accident, Traffic Police forces, the investigation group, and representatives of the Police Supervision Agency (AMP) arrived at the scene. The officer involved in the accident was escorted to the police premises for questioning, while investigations are ongoing to clarify the circumstances and responsibilities of this tragic case.
Police announce that work is continuing to fully document the dynamics of the event and to determine the exact cause of the accident.
