Opposition to the new territorial map is also increasing within the ranks of the Socialist Party in Maliq.
The leader of the SP of Maliq, Ornid Demollari, has publicly opposed the project that envisages the merger of the Maliq Municipality and its unification with Korça. According to him, such a change would remove services from citizens and create difficulties for the community.
Demollari's position became public after hearings held in the Libonik Administrative Unit, where residents expressed their opposition to the unification of Maliq with Korça.
During the hearings, residents accused the government of making decisions about the future of the territory without first consulting the communities directly affected by the proposed changes.
Meanwhile, the Maliq Municipal Council has begun consultations with residents of the administrative units, while hearings are expected to continue in the coming days.
The official position of the Maliq Municipality is expected to be approved at a special meeting of the Municipal Council on August 20. The document will then be forwarded to the Assembly, while parliamentary discussions on territorial reform are expected to return in October.
