The meeting called by Prime Minister Edi Rama with the heads of regional municipalities and the mayors of municipalities that are expected to merge as part of the new administrative-territorial reform has ended after about four hours and 30 minutes.
The meeting took place in Kuç, and the focus of the discussions was the reorganization of local government and the future of municipalities that may not be part of the new map.
According to sources, the mayors of the municipalities affected by the changes have presented their positions and arguments as to why the local units they lead should continue to exist. Arguments in favor of the merger of several municipalities were also discussed during the meeting.
Discussions have taken place with all mayors present, while the reform is expected to continue through consultations with local government, communities and other stakeholders involved. The stated goal is to create a more functional, efficient and citizen-friendly local organization.
The meeting was attended by the leaders of the municipalities of Durrës, Shkodër, Kukës, Elbasan, Korçë, Berat, Vlorë, Gjirokastër, Klos, Rrogozhinë, Dimal, Poliçan, Patos, Divjakë, Selenica, Maliq, Këlcyrë, Cërrik, Belsh and Libohëvo.
