Albania continues to be hit by a series of natural disasters that repeat every season, while the protective mechanisms and institutional response remain fragile. This is also the main thrust of the denunciation made today by Ervin Resuli, president of the Veterinary Order, who raises the concern that Albanian citizens are facing the consequences of fires, floods and other emergencies that are becoming an annual cycle, unprotected.
Resuli recalls that just a few months ago the country was battling fires in various areas, while today many regions are under water, leaving behind severe damage to homes, households and infrastructure. "In a few months we will be under snow. And so on. A seasonal cycle that always finds us unprepared and unprotected," he says.
According to him, the danger to citizens does not come only from nature. Resuli mentions a number of other problems that, according to him, weigh on public safety, including corruption, crime, the trade in dangerous substances, deficiencies in food safety and the risk of zoonotic diseases related to the lack of control and monitoring.
He emphasizes that institutions are often limited to statements and press conferences, while on the ground there is a lack of concrete response plans, logistics and transparency. “'European Albania' is excellent on paper. But in practice there is no strong mechanism for prevention, response and compensation for disasters. Only improvisation, only propaganda”, underlines Resuli.
While many families in flooded areas continue to battle the water and the damage it has caused, Resuli appeals for greater institutional responsibility and functional structures to protect citizens before, during and after emergencies.
At the end of his statement, he expressed solidarity with the families affected by the floods: "May God give strength to all the families who are facing the floods today."
