The spread of technology and the increased use of machines that help with household chores are increasing year after year the expenses of Albanian families for their repairs.
According to INSTAT data, revenues from service activities for the repair of computers, mobile phones, televisions, ovens, washing machines, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, irons, mixers, etc. have reached 10.2 billion lek or an approximate value of 103 million euros in 2023.
Data shows a steady increase in computer and home appliance repair services over the past three years, reflecting a growing demand for these types of services in the market. In 2021, the total revenue of this sector reached 6.75 billion lek, while in 2022 it reached over 8.6 billion lek. In 2023, the revenue of businesses providing repair services increased by 18 percent compared to 2022.
This trend signals several developments. First, repair services are becoming increasingly expensive due to a shortage of specialists. Equipment repairers are in high demand, with a large portion of them emigrating to other European countries as there are also shortages in these types of professions.
Secondly, Albanian families are increasingly increasing the use of household appliances, especially electronic ones. Their range is growing year by year, and so is the need for repair services. Computers and mobile phones have now become personal items, and the need for their repair is increasing with their use.
The COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath have significantly increased the use of computers, laptops, mobile phones, and home devices for work, online school, or entertainment. This has also led to a greater need for their maintenance and repair.
Also, high prices after the pandemic have shifted consumer preference for repair and maintenance services as a more economical choice instead of purchasing a new device. On the other hand, through online platforms, service centers have more opportunities to obtain spare parts faster, which improves the efficiency and profitability of the activity.
In a society that is becoming increasingly dependent on technology, the repair market will see growth. In addition to market factors, demographic developments in the country are also having an impact, with fewer and fewer craftsmen and repairmen, which is putting pressure on higher prices./ Monitor
