Today was dominated by reports of a serious incident in Roskovec, where a 34-year-old woman, Merita Gremaj, publicly denounced her former partner, Bledar Bakaj, accusing him of taking her by force, holding her against her will, and raping her.
The incident immediately took on political significance, as some media outlets reported that Bledar Bakaj is the uncle of Socialist Party MP Zegjine Çaushi. The MP herself later confirmed the family connection, clarifying that Bakaj is her mother's brother.
According to reports, the latest conflict occurred in the village of Suk 2 in Roskovec, where Bakaj is suspected of having gone to the Gremaj family's apartment and clashed with the 34-year-old's father, Enver Gremaj. The latter was injured and is out of danger, while Bledar Bakaj has been arrested by police.
Merita Gremaj stated that her acquaintance with Bakaj began after he promised her a job. According to her, the situation then turned into violence, threats and abuse. Her father publicly supported his daughter's version, saying that the girl had not gone with Bakaj willingly, but had been taken by force.
After the publication of Bakaj's denunciation and arrest, MP Zegjine Çaushi reacted. She said that she was informed about the incident by the media and that she does not have constant contact with all the relatives of the mother's family.
In her response, Çaushi said that she had met Bledar Bakaj and Merita Gremaj by chance at the beginning of June, after a meeting she had had in the area. According to her, Merita had introduced herself as Bledar's cohabitant and that relatives and neighbors were also present in the yard. The MP said that she had congratulated them on their relationship and asked them if they had decided to get married.
Çaushi condemned any form of violence, "regardless of who perpetrated it," and urged law enforcement agencies to do their job. She added that the case should also be handled carefully from a psychological perspective, for both individuals.
So far, it has been confirmed that Bledar Bakaj has been arrested after injuring his ex-partner's father. While the 34-year-old's accusations of kidnapping, forcible confinement and rape remain part of her public denunciation and are expected to be verified by investigative bodies.
