US President Donald Trump boasted on Tuesday that he had ended hostilities between “Azerbaijan” and Albania. In saying so, he misspelled the name of one country and mentioned another that had nothing to do with the conflict he was talking about, Mediaite reports.
Earlier this month, Trump brokered a peace deal between Azerbaijan and Armenia, whose leaders he hosted at the White House. The two countries have long been at odds over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which Azerbaijan regained control of in 2023.
Trump spoke on The Mark Levin Show on Tuesday, where he repeated his claim — without much context — that he had resolved six or seven global conflicts in the first seven months of his presidency.
“I’ve resolved six wars, and a lot of people say seven because there’s one that nobody knows about,” he said enigmatically. “But I’ve resolved six wars, and we made Iran — we took out their nuclear capability, which they would have used against Israel in two seconds if they had the chance. But we took it out.”
After that, he said that the conflict between India and Pakistan had been the “easiest” to resolve. Then he turned to “Aberbaijan” and Albania, adding:
“A lot of wonderful things. You saw Aberbaijan. It was big, it had been going on for 34, 35 years with, uh, Albania. Think about it. Years and years, and I got to know the leaders, I got to know them through trade. I was dealing with them a little bit and I said, ‘Why are you fighting?’ Then I said, ‘I’m not going to make a trade deal if you keep fighting. It’s crazy.’
Then one thing led to another and I solved it. And it was one of those things that people said couldn't be solved. Even when I had them both in the Oval Office at the end, when they were getting ready to sign, they were sitting next to each other but they were trying to leave. They weren't feeling well. After an hour they were hugging each other and congratulating each other. It was beautiful to see."
