The civilian death toll from Israel's military campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon is steadily rising, including a large number of children.
According to Lebanese authorities, nearly 100 children have been killed in the past week, while more than 200,000 people have been forced to flee their homes. The international humanitarian organization War Child said that about one in every ten children in Lebanon is among the displaced.
In total, according to official data, more than 800,000 people have been displaced as a result of the escalation of fighting.
Lebanese authorities also report that at least 18 paramedics and emergency workers have been killed during rescue operations. The Lebanese Red Cross confirmed that one of its volunteers, Youssef Assaf, was killed when an Israeli strike hit his ambulance during a rescue mission in the south of the country earlier this week.
Meanwhile, another Israeli attack on Thursday hit the campus of the Lebanese University, the country's main public university. According to Lebanon's state news agency, the attack killed the dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Dr. Hussein Bazzi, and professor Dr. Murtada Srour.
