A spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baghaei, has stated that a number of ships can still pass through the Strait of Hormuz, provided they coordinate with the Iranian navy.
Iran has previously threatened to attack or set fire to any ship attempting to use the strait, leading to a near-complete decline in maritime traffic and driving up oil and gas prices.
Baghaei added that some ships could still use the waterway if Iran's military is aware of their intentions.
"After the current events, we generally cannot return to the conditions before February 28th... as we have understood how important the security of the Strait of Hormuz is, and so have others," he said.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important trade routes in the world, with around a fifth of global oil exports passing through this waterway.
Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump said Iran would face death and fire if it continued to block oil shipments through the strait.
