The legal team of famous American producer and rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs has filed a formal request with the Administration of President Donald Trump, asking the White House to consider the possibility of a presidential pardon for their client. The news was confirmed by Combs' lawyer, in an interview with the television network CNN.
Last month, Diddy was found guilty of two prostitution-related charges, while the court found him not guilty of more serious charges related to sex trafficking and conspiracy to commit extortion. For the charges he was found guilty of, he faces a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, with a final verdict expected in October.
President Donald Trump, in a statement earlier in May — before Combs was found guilty — said he would “look into the case,” though he acknowledged that he was not briefed on the details of the legal case. In a later interview with Newsmax, Trump stated:
"I was good friends with him, we got along well. He seemed like a nice guy, but when I ran for president, he was very hostile towards me."
However, the President has not yet made a final decision on the pardon request. The White House, for its part, has not yet commented on the formal request submitted by Combs' lawyers, which relies on the president's authority to pardon individuals convicted of federal crimes.
