The strategic Strait of Hormuz has been closed to maritime traffic again, significantly increasing tensions in the Middle East and concerns about the global oil trade.
Iranian authorities have announced that the key shipping route will remain blocked until the United States lifts restrictions on Iranian ports. The decision comes just days after the strait was temporarily reopened.
The speaker of Iran's parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, stated that although there has been progress in negotiations with the US, the parties still remain far from a final agreement.
The latest talks between Iranian representatives and US officials took place in Pakistan, while a date for the next round of negotiations has not yet been set.
On the other hand, US President Donald Trump has stressed that dialogue with Tehran is continuing positively, but has warned that the US will not allow pressure or "blackmail" regarding control of the Strait of Hormuz.
The closure of this important sea route is expected to have a direct impact on international energy markets and global economic stability.
