French President Emmanuel Macron declared at the World Economic Forum in Davos that the world is facing a crucial choice between accepting the "law of the strongest," which he said would lead to a new colonial approach, and defending effective multilateralism that guarantees global order and serves the interests of states.
In his speech, Macron stressed that this is a key moment for the defense of national sovereignty and independence. He also touched on the recent decision to station the French army in Greenland, describing it as a step to defend a strategic territory and support a European ally, without intending to threaten other parties.
The French President also noted the role of the Group of Seven (G7), emphasizing that France, through its presidency, aims to revive this forum as a space for sincere dialogue and cooperation, with the aim of preventing trade wars, increasing protectionism and undermining the global economic order.
"Our objective through the G7 is to show that the world's major powers are still capable of reaching a common diagnosis of the global economy," Macron said, calling for greater international commitment in facing trade and geopolitical challenges.
