Greenland's Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, said the Arctic island's population and its authorities should also begin preparing for the possibility of a military invasion, although he described such a scenario as unlikely.
Speaking at a press conference in the capital Nuuk, Nielsen said developments around Greenland require increased vigilance, as Donald Trump continues to threaten that the United States could take control of the territory.
"It is unlikely that there will be a military conflict, but it cannot be ruled out," said the Prime Minister of Greenland, emphasizing that both the island's residents and institutions must be prepared for any eventuality.
His statements come at a time of rising geopolitical tensions in the Arctic and strong reactions from European governments to US positions on Greenland, which Denmark considers an integral part of its territory, with a broad autonomy status.
US President Donald Trump, before boarding the plane that will take him to Davos, posted an artificial intelligence-generated photo on Truth Social, depicting him, Vice President Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, invading Greenland.
