France has changed the dates of the upcoming G7 summit to fit in with US President Donald Trump's agenda, according to a senior US official.
The summit, originally scheduled for June 14-16, was postponed to June 15-17. The change was made so that Trump could host a mixed martial arts bout at the White House on June 14, his 80th birthday.
"Our partners deemed it necessary for President Trump to attend the summit. They graciously changed the dates to accommodate his agenda," the White House official said.
The Elysee Palace said that "the summit date was decided after consultations with all G7 countries."
The G7 consists of the United States, Japan, Canada, France, Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom. Each year, the countries hold ministerial meetings and a summit with heads of state and government.
Analysts say Trump's return has changed the traditional way these summits work, shaking up the US's historic alliances.
