Donald Trump has stated that the control that the United States will exercise over Venezuela could last for years.
"Only time will tell," Trump said, interviewed by the New York Times newspaper.
Asked if the situation in question would last three months, six months, a year or more, the US president replied: "I'm afraid it will be much longer."
"We will rebuild the country economically. We will use the oil and we will import it. We will lower the price of it and we will give Venezuela the revenue that it so desperately needs," Trump said.
Meanwhile, new details have come to light about last weekend's US special forces operation in Venezuela, which led to the capture of the country's leader, Nicolas Maduro.
According to the latest data, the death toll of the Delta Force operatives has reached 100.
"So far there are 100 dead and an approximate number of injured. The attack on our country was terrible," Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello said.
The minister also announced that Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were injured during the January 3 flash mob.
"Cilia was injured in the head and received a blow to the body, while her husband, Nicolas, was injured in the leg. Fortunately, they are recovering from their injuries," Cabello added.
