Utah Governor Spencer Cox said today that the suspect in the shooting death of American conservative activist Charlie Kirk is not cooperating with authorities and has not yet admitted responsibility for the crime. The suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, will be formally charged on Tuesday and remains in custody in Utah. Investigations are still ongoing to clarify Robinson's motives for the serious incident. According to the records, Robinson is suspected of climbing onto the roof of a building at Utah Valley University during an outdoor activity, where he shot Kirk in the neck from a long distance last Wednesday, causing his death.
Governor Cox confirmed in an interview with ABC's "This Week" that Robinson is refusing to testify, but stressed that those around him are cooperating with authorities. "He's not cooperating, but everyone around him is cooperating, and that's very important," Cox said. One of the key witnesses is Robinson's roommate, whom the governor described as "a man in transition to a woman" and called "extremely cooperative."
Asked by CNN if the roommate's gender identity had any bearing on the investigation, Governor Cox responded: "That's what we're trying to figure out right now... It's easy to jump to conclusions, but we have the casings, other forensic evidence that's coming to us, and we're trying to put it together piece by piece."
Investigations continue to uncover the motives and full circumstances of this event that has shocked public opinion in the US.
