After Great Britain, Canada and Australia are the other two countries that officially recognize the state of Palestine.
In a post on the social network X, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney declared that as of today, "Canada recognizes the State of Palestine and offers our partnership in building the promise of a peaceful future for both the State of Palestine and the State of Israel."
Australia has also followed Canada's decision to recognize Palestine as a sovereign state, writes Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
He says this is part of a joint effort with Canada and Britain and will form "an international effort for a two-state solution."
The United Kingdom has previously made the same decision. Keir Starmer has announced the recognition of the Palestinian state by the United Kingdom.
"Today, to revive hope for peace for Palestinians and Israelis, and a two-state solution, the United Kingdom officially recognizes the State of Palestine," he says.
Both Canada and Australia had previously expressed their intentions to formally recognize a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in New York this week.
