The Electoral Reform Commission's deadline has been officially postponed until November. The decision was made during the last meeting of the Conference of Mayors, where only the votes of the socialist majority were approved, while representatives of the Democratic Party and the Freedom Party chose to maintain the same position by boycotting the process.
Although the opposition did not participate in the vote, the request itself bore the signatures of both co-chairs of the committee:
Damian Gjiknuri (from the ranks of the Socialist Party)
Oerd Bylykbashi (from the ranks of the Democratic Party)
According to the co-chairs, this additional time is necessary to give political forces space to find a common language. The aim is to reach a preliminary political agreement, which would then pave the way for drafting technical amendments to the Electoral Code.
