The Brescia Court in Italy has imposed the security measure "prison arrest" on 21-year-old Albanian-origin Eduart Xhani, accused of stabbing his mother, 39-year-old Meleqe Lusha.
The decision was made by the preliminary investigation judge, Mauro Ernesto Macca, who confirmed the young man's detention after questioning. However, Gianni remains hospitalized in the Neuropsychiatry ward of the Brescia Civil Hospital, under the supervision of law enforcement, due to concerns that he may harm himself.
The serious crime occurred on the evening of November 2, in the apartment where the mother and son lived in the town of Chiari, in the province of Brescia. According to the investigation, the 39-year-old was stabbed several times in the upper body, losing her life.
After the incident, the 21-year-old left in his vehicle, and on the morning of November 3, he voluntarily presented himself at a Carabinieri police station in Cremona, where he admitted to killing his mother.
During questioning at the hospital, Xhani stated that before the crime he had attempted to end his life, but without success. According to his testimony, after this moment he had pointed the knife at his mother, stabbing her to death.
However, the young man has not been able to provide a clear explanation for the motive for the murder. The investigation so far does not reveal any previous conflicts between him and the victim.
Meanwhile, an autopsy was performed on the 39-year-old's body on November 6, the results of which are expected to determine the exact number of blows and help in the full reconstruction of the event.
Eduart Xhani was born in Italy, to a family of Albanian origin. After his parents separated, he was raised by his mother, with the support of her family. The event has shocked the Albanian community in Chiari, where the family had been known for years.
Investigations continue to uncover the motive for the crime, while the young man's condition and the circumstances of the incident are expected to be the subject of further evaluations during the judicial process.
