For days, VNA has been closely following the progress of the "Sumud" flotilla towards Gaza, where Albanian activist Baki Goxhaj is also present, along with dozens of peaceful activists from different countries around the world.
In the last few hours, VNA reported that the ship Goxhaj was on was attacked by the Israeli military while still sailing in international waters. So far, there is no clear information about the fate of the Albanian activist and the other people on board.
Following the publicly raised concern, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has also reacted, confirming that it has been made aware of the case and has initiated diplomatic communications with the Israeli authorities.
According to the official response, the Ministry says that "through diplomatic channels" it has been "in communication from the first moment with the competent Israeli authorities to provide complete information on the situation and to guarantee respect for the rights of the Albanian citizen, including consular access."
The Ministry further announces that it is following the case "with full priority" and that it remains in constant contact with Baki Goxhaj's family, while promising further information on the procedures that are expected to be undertaken.
The case has raised great concern, as there is still no public information on the condition of the people who were on the "Sumud" flotilla after the intervention of the Israeli army.
