Workers at the Spaç copper mine escalated their protest this Thursday, gathering in front of the Albanian Parliament.
The miners are demanding official recognition of the union they have created and the signing of a collective agreement, which, according to them, would ensure fairer wages and safer working conditions.
With banners in their hands and chanting "We want our rights," the protesters demanded better working conditions and dignified pensions for their years of contribution in the mine.
They warned that the protests will continue until their demands are reviewed and official negotiations for the collective contract begin.
On the other hand, the company that administers the mine has stated that it will respect the legal procedures for recognizing the union, before starting any negotiation process.
