Two Swedish tourists, a mother and son, aged 61 and 23 respectively, have been reported missing in the Llogara National Park. According to preliminary information, they had set out in the morning to explore the mountainous area and had traversed part of the park and the surrounding forests, but after a few hours, contact with them was completely lost.
Sources from the search groups indicate that the tourists sent an SOS signal, which was picked up by the Greek authorities, due to the lack of telephone signal coverage on the Albanian side of the Karaburun peninsula. Immediately after receiving the signal, the Greek Civil Emergencies notified the Albanian authorities, activating cross-border cooperation channels for mountain emergencies.
Civil Emergency forces, the Vlora Police and the Protected Areas Agency (AZM) are engaged in the field, conducting intensive searches in several directions within the park and along the mountain roads connecting Llogara with Karaburun. The search operation is being carried out in difficult conditions, due to the harsh terrain, darkness and unstable weather that has engulfed the area.
Authorities have also sought help from local residents, who know the terrain well and are helping to identify possible paths that tourists may have followed.
According to sources from the scene, the two tourists are believed to have climbed towards the Karaburun area after traversing the Llogora forests, where they are suspected of losing their orientation due to the difficult terrain and lack of telephone signals.
Currently, the search is continuing without interruption and is expected to resume in the early hours of the morning with more forces, including the use of drones and specialized tools for searching in mountainous terrain. Albanian authorities have announced that they are in constant contact with the Swedish embassy in Tirana to inform family members and for further coordination of the operation.
