The Maritime Police Unit and the Border Police have intensified controls this week on the coastline from Komani to Ksamil, to increase security in territorial waters and to avoid risks to holidaymakers. As a result, 525 vessels have been checked, of which 35 have been blocked for various violations of maritime traffic rules.
Among the blocked vehicles are:
22 jet skis
5 speedboats
6 dinghies
2 metal boats with installed water motors
Of these, 14 vehicles were found to be sailing within the security perimeter, directly endangering the lives of vacationers. Their drivers were punished with an administrative fine of 100,000 lek each.
Also, thanks to the rapid intervention of police forces, 19 people were rescued at sea, including Albanian and foreign citizens, and 6 endangered vessels were brought ashore.
In another action, the Saranda Border Police in cooperation with the Greek authorities have located and blocked a stolen dinghy in the Lefkada area (Greece), which was sailing outside the security perimeter at Pemë e Thatë beach, Ksamil-Saranda. Work continues to identify the perpetrators.
