The US military announced that it has launched a new round of strikes on Iran, starting at 6:00 a.m. Washington time (ET).
"At 6:00 a.m. ET on Wednesday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces launched a wave of strikes against Iran," a statement published on the X platform said.
According to the statement, the attacks are aimed at further weakening the military capabilities that, according to the US, Iranian forces have used to attack commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
"The attacks are designed to further degrade the military capabilities that Iranian forces have used to attack merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz," the statement said.
Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated in recent days over the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. Both sides have traded attacks, despite the existence of a memorandum of understanding brokered by Pakistan, which aims to reduce tensions and create conditions for reaching a lasting peace agreement.
