United States President Donald Trump has warned that the US could launch attacks on Iranian bridges and power plants next week if Tehran does not return to the negotiating table.
The statements were made during an interview with Fox News, at a time when the US and Iran have exchanged attacks for the fourth consecutive day, after the end of the ceasefire.
Earlier, Trump dropped his threat to impose a 20% tariff on all cargo ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, but announced the resumption of the blockade of Iranian ports.
"Next week it's going to get very bad for them. We're going to blow up all their power plants. We're going to blow up all their bridges if they don't sit down at the table and negotiate," Trump said.
According to him, American negotiators made it clear to their Iranian counterparts during Tuesday's talks that they must reach an agreement or face serious consequences.
The escalation of rhetoric comes after Trump said a threatened 20% tariff on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz would be replaced by major trade and investment deals with Gulf countries. However, just hours later, the United States resumed its blockade of Iranian ports.
