President Vjosa Osmani dissolved the Parliament this morning, causing Kosovo to go to extraordinary elections.
Osmani declared that she has issued a decree to dissolve the Parliament, since according to her, the country's representatives "decided to take the country to elections."
"Through this decree, I am fulfilling my constitutional obligation, which is clearly defined... It is a great misfortune that the deputies did not choose the interest of Kosovo," Osmani said.
According to her, the failed attempts the night before to elect the president in the Assembly were neither accidental nor thoughtless.
"This means that March 5 was the constitutional deadline for the Assembly to elect the new president. This deadline expired last night at midnight. So, we are not dealing with a public debate. We are dealing with a clear constitutional fact. The Constitution was not written for interpretations that relativize its weight. It was written to guarantee the functioning of the state, not procrastination and dysfunction," said Osmani.
