The Skydagger combat drones have arrived in Kosovo today, part of the contract signed last year between the Kosovo Ministry of Defense and the Turkish company Baykar. They are RTF (Ready to Fly) Skydagger FPV suicide drones, equipped with explosive devices and capable of hitting both mobile and static targets. The new shipment comes as part of the efforts of Kosovo institutions to strengthen defense capacities and advance towards NATO standards.
However, this development has caused an immediate and harsh reaction from Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who has described Turkey's behavior as "horrible" and in violation of international law.
"I am horrified by Turkey's behavior and the brutal violation of the UN Charter and Resolution 1244, as well as by the continued arming of Kosovo. It is now completely clear that Turkey does not want the stability of the Western Balkans and dreams of restoring the Ottoman Empire again. Serbia is a small country, but we understood the message well," Vučić told Serbian media.
In response to these statements, Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani stated that Vučić's positions constitute an open and shameless attack on Turkey - a NATO member country and an important ally of Kosovo.
"I am proud to have worked closely with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has always shown deep care for the people of our region and has made an extraordinary contribution to maintaining peace and security. Vučić, on the other hand, seems to believe that he can threaten a major NATO country, just as he threatens neighboring countries," Osmani wrote on the social network Twitter.
She added that Kosovo will continue to strengthen relations with its strategic allies and modernize its defense capacities in accordance with NATO standards, an alliance where the country aims to join in the near future.
"Vučić should try to do the same, instead of constantly attacking his neighbors. But, for his hegemonic mindset, which is stuck in the past and is constantly fixated on bullying others, such prudence seems beyond reach," concluded President Osmani.
