Dr. Zekirija Shaini, an official of the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) and holder of the list of advisors of the Alliance coalition in the municipality of Lipkovo, was injured in the shooting that occurred today in the city of Kumanovo.
According to official information published by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MPB), the incident occurred in front of the Kumanovo Municipality building. According to initial data, two unknown persons fired Kalashnikov-type automatic weapons at Shaini's car. As a result of the shooting, he suffered a leg wound and was immediately taken to the Kumanovo City Hospital for medical assistance. Sources from the hospital have confirmed that the injured man is out of danger.
"At around 13:54 in Kumanovo, two unknown persons fired a gun at the car of the person Z.Sh., from the village of Sllupçan, employed at the Pulmonology Clinic. After first aid, he was taken to the City Hospital," the statement from the Internal Affairs Sector (SPB) in Kumanovo states.
The Basic Public Prosecution Office of Kumanovo has reacted by confirming that two public prosecutors have been sent to the scene to collect material evidence and shed light on the full circumstances of the case.
"Regarding the incident in Kumanovo, two public prosecutors from the Basic Public Prosecution Office of Kumanovo have gone to the scene and are undertaking investigative actions. Initial indications do not point to political motives behind the armed incident, but all circumstances are being verified to ensure a full explanation of the event," the official response of the prosecution says.
Investigations are ongoing, while authorities have warned that all necessary measures will be taken to apprehend the perpetrators and fully uncover the motive for the attack.
