'I hope Hashim Thaçi is sentenced to life imprisonment', was this unprecedented statement made by Vetëvendosje Movement MP Fatos Geci from the Parliament's rostrum. Former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi has been in custody in The Hague along with 3 other former KLA leaders since 2022 awaiting a decision from the court.
Geci wishes Thaçi the same fate as Naim Murseli, as he commented on the latter's life sentence for the murder of his wife.
"Today, I want to welcome the court's decision to sentence Naim Murseli to life imprisonment. And you (addressing the PDK deputies) who hope that your supreme leader will be released, will suffer the same fate. But even if he is released, he has no credibility in the face of Albin Kurti," Geci declared.
Immediately after this statement, the chairwoman of the Vetëvendosje Movement parliamentary group, Arbërie Nagavci, reacted, making clear this party's position on the liberation war.
"Regarding the KLA's liberation war, our positions are public, clear and we stand behind them. The war was just, clean and we respect the efforts of all those who have contributed to the country's freedom."
Vetëvendosje MP Hysen Durmishi also reacted, saying that he feels ashamed of Fatos Geci's statement.
"I feel ashamed by the statement of MP Geci! Our war was pure and liberating! The KLA is the highest value of our nation!" said Durmishi.
The Speaker of the Assembly Albulena Haxhiu immediately distanced herself from this statement, saying that it does not represent either her personal position or that of the Assembly and the LVV. Reactions have also come from the Democratic Party of Kosovo Vlora Çitaku, who described the language used in the Assembly's rostrum as unacceptable.
