The 44th protest against the government and Prime Minister Edi Rama took place this evening in Tirana, maintaining the same format as previous rallies. Participants initially gathered at "Skënderbej" Square, marched towards the Prime Minister's Office and, after the speeches, continued the march through the main streets of the capital.
During his speech in front of the Prime Minister's Office, activist Andi Tepelena stated that, in addition to demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, the protesters are also demanding the establishment of a technical government. According to him, it should be non-partisan and composed of professionals, with the aim of reforming the electoral system.
Tepelena stated that the current Electoral Code has harmed equal political competition and hindered the functioning of democracy. He emphasized that the protesters are demanding an amendment to the Electoral Code, the depoliticization of election commissions, equal access to public funds for political parties, and the creation of conditions for a fair competition between political forces.
The activist also commented on the stance of the German ambassador in Tirana, Karl Bergner, assessing that it constitutes support for the peaceful protest of citizens. According to Tepelena, Germany has historically been close to Albania and continues to support respect for democratic values and the right to assemble.
On the other hand, activist Ilir Xhemalaj called on intellectuals to join the protest and contribute to the opposition to the government. He invited them to overcome, according to him, fear and participate in civic gatherings.
Xhemalaj also expressed gratitude to singer Dua Lipa, praising her statements on the podcast with Lea Ypi. He called on other artists to raise their voices against injustice and support the protest.
At the end of the rally, the participants chanted the slogan "More tomorrow!", emphasizing that the protest will continue in the coming days. Afterwards, they marched along the "Martyrs of the Nation" Boulevard, continuing the demonstration with banners and calls against the government.
Organizers have announced that the protests will continue until their demands are met.
